Were the articles really immunohematology?

Some definitions:
(i) study of antigen-antibody reactions as they relate to blood disorders
(ii)branch of immunology that deals with the immunologic properties of blood

2. Why didn't Transfusion have more papers of practical relevance to medical laboratory technologists and nurses in their daily jobs?

Agree with what others have said. Thanks for the feedback!

Cheers, Pat
http://www.traqprogram.ca/new-on-traq.aspBluthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06234734730501396268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8729772.post-91047705187177576592007-02-17T15:31:00.000-07:002007-02-17T15:31:00.000-07:00Many thanks to those who have commented. Even so, as an obvious fan, I find Transfusion is very "hard science" based and each issue I read less full articles, despite an interest in Blood Bank genetics. This is why I also have a subscription to Immunohematology. However, you must have skipped page 1 of the January 2007 issue, titled "ABO discrepancy: reverse type." Although not a full blown article, it at least describes one of the problems we bloodbankers often encounter (missing antibodies). That's as immunohematology as it gets.

Robert Currie, MT(ASCP)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8729772.post-10231021304192363112007-02-07T03:11:00.000-07:002007-02-07T03:11:00.000-07:00I half agree with you! I think that immunohaematol...I half agree with you! I think that immunohaematology has moved on from 'simple' reports but what is missing is the relevance that molecular analysis has to daily work in routine patient/donor testing. The molecular background of certain polymorphisms has explained many 'odd' results for example. Molecular RhD typing from maternal blood to determine fetal RhD type may reduce the burden of prophylaxis and avoid women being administered human blood products unecessarily. So, in depth studies are not all bad or gobbeldy gook, but let's have them related to real life! Do the mutations result in typing or XM problems for example? Will this new molecular knowledge impact on routine work or transfusion regimes? Is it significant for pregnant women? what about in medico-legal situations?
I am just grateful that other journals still carry such articles!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
